Beginners FAQs

Q. I want to start running, but I am worried that everyone else will be too fast and that I might not be able to keep up.

A.  Amongst the 100 club members there are runners of all levels including absolute beginners. Indeed the club runs beginners courses during the summer months. Training is split into ability groups so you will be running alongside other newcomers. You do not need to be highly competitive to come along and try it.

Q. I just want to get fitter and lose weight. Running clubs are only for people wanting to race?

A. There are many new members of the club that only run to improve fitness. As you get fitter you may aspire to enter local running events.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. Club membership is £20 per year. However,  you are welcome to come along and try it for a few weeks.

No special equipment is required. A pair of trainers, shorts, t-shirt and a tracksuit in winter is enough to get started.

Q. When and where do you meet?

A.   Tuesday night 6:30- 7:30 meet Bourne Leisure centre car park [link to       street map]. INTERVAL RUNS

Thursday 6:30-7:30 meet Bourne Leisure car park [link to google map].        TEMPO RUN

Friday 6-7pm from Bourne Grammar school.

[link to google map]. ROAD RUN

Sunday 10am Bourne Woods [google map]. Currently juniors only.

In summer venues change to Bourne Woods and BGS (term time) track        after clock change.

Q. I want to enter the London Marathon. What will joining a running club do for me?

A.  Running in a social group can make training much more enjoyable and help encourage the hard work required. For many the work required in hard sessions is easier when running alongside other runners. The competitive edge pushes you on to greater training effort.

The wealth of experience of seasoned marathon runners and qualified coaches can provide invaluable advise.
